Badflower let frustrations flow in blistering new song “F*ck The World”

Badflower are back with their first new piece of music in 2021.

This week, they debuted their blistering new song “F*ck The World” which tackles the problems and unrest resulting from climate change.

It’s been a minute since we last heard new music from Badflower. Last year, they followed up their 2019 full-length album OK, I’M SICK with a few new songs including “30.” The latest single marked the 30th birthday of vocalist Josh Katz, a milestone he exclusively told Alternative Press he had mixed emotions about.

Now, Badflower are back with their first new release of the year. This week, the band debuted their grunge-filled single “F*ck The World” which is all about the climate crisis the world is facing. As it turns out, the song was originally created for a new film.

“We were asked to write a song for a film placement,” Josh Katz says. “Usually when you get asked to do something like that, they are looking for something vague and nonspecific which isn’t something I’m particularly good at but we started writing with that as the intention and totally failed.”

Leading up to the 2020 Presidental election, Katz couldn’t get the image of a climate-torn generation out of his head. This concept, and his passion for ending climate change, eventually inspired “F*ck The World.” However, after finishing the new song, Katz realized it was too specific for the film. As a result, Badflower have released the track on their own.

“Climate change is something I feel passionate about,” Katz continues. “During that time, I was heavily engaged in it (there was a critical election going on) and started having this fantasy about a future generation leaving the earth as a result of our generation doing nothing. I couldn’t get that concept out of my head and ended up writing it that way which meant it was way too specific for film placement. I didn’t want to change it so we didn’t and now we’re giving it to all of you instead.”

For “F*ck The World,” Badflower blend together nostalgic grunge sounds with their own distinct style. As a result, Katz’s scathing lyrics pack punches as listeners are transported to the dystopic world Katz had in mind while writing the song. Ultimately, “F*ck The World” will resonate with listeners both new and old as the world continues to debate climate change for years to come.
