London all-female trio BERRIES are back with a Live EP. It features recent single Copy as well as choice cuts from their previous releases.

We’ve featured them before here at Louder Than War on a number of occasions with John Robb describing their sound as “cranked garage and spell binding distortion”. He’s right of course; their off-kilter melodies reminding me of recent releases by LIINES and Bugeye.

It’s great to see BERRIES, Holly, Lauren and Lucie going from strength to strength; not least now they have the backing now of Xtra Mile Recordings. This came about after label founder Charlie Caplowe played Frank Turner some of the band’s recordings. Obviously impressed, Frank offered them a support slot, which then saw the label offering the trio a record deal.

This EP opens with Copy before heading into the 2019 trio of Dangerous, Lies and Silent.

It’s fitting that Dangerous is included here as the band were recently invited to take an active part in the Loud Women Project. The band explaining, “Dangerous was written after travelling home late one night from a gig. All of the thoughts and feelings of walking the streets alone at night and the different personalities you meet on the way”.

Speaking to Holly about the project she enthused, “we were so excited and proud to be involved in the Loud Women, Reclaim These Streets song. Raising money for such an imperative cause and awareness of how most women feel walking the streets at night. Cassie’s lyrics resonated with us and we are very pleased to see the song raise lots of money for Women’s Aid and reach lots of people”.

This live EP highlights what a cracking band BERRIES are and fills the gap ahead of their full length debut in early 2022.
