Of course, no one can forget about the historic night Eilish had at the Grammys in 2020. As a first-time nominee, she was up for six awards. AlthoughLizzo’s “Truth Hurts” won Best Pop Vocal Performance, Eilish took home the five other awards she was nominated for.
“I was dead surprised,” she told Dazed in April. “And I was embarrassed, dude, I was fuckin’ embarrassed. I was in front of Ariana Grande and Lana Del Reyand fuckin’ Beyoncéis nominated, and I win. I was like, ‘Nooooo…’”
Just before her Grammys sweep, Eilish gave fans a taste of her new music. In mid-November, she released “everything i wanted” which has earned three Grammy nominations this year. Eilish directed the immersive video for the song which was co-written with FINNEAS.
“My brother and I wrote this song about each other,” Eilish said in a press release. “And I wanted to create a visual that emphasizes that no matter what, we’ll be there for each other through everything. This is the second video I’ve directed of mine. We worked so hard, for hours and hours on end.”
“What’s funny is that we kind of started with making sure we got a melody that we felt was really solid before we tried any lyrics out,” Eilish said. “We both think it’s really important to have the title of the movie in the song and have the song be called that. It wouldn’t have been satisfying otherwise.”
“I was fully uninspired for the first three weeks of this,” she told Zane Loweduring an Apple Music interview. “I was not about to make music and I don’t know why. It was just like, ‘This is not interesting to me right now.’ It was annoying though because that’s the kind of thing you want to be doing in quarantine. But I wasn’t feeling it.”
“I have a fun story to tell you, but first, fuck you guys,” she said on Instagram. “Stop making fun of me oh my god, I’m fucking making you an album. I will not put it out if you keep making fun of my hair, shut up. I’m changing it after the doc [documentary] comes out, it will be the end of an era. I’m gonna give you a new era, I have announcements to make. I have some shit to put out. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Leave me alone [and] let me live with my fucking hair that I’ve had for far too long.”
