Megadeth fans have been impatiently waiting for the follow-up to the band’s 2016 release Dystopia. But there is good news because frontman Dave Mustaine seems to be in the process of recording vocals for a new record.

Mustaine has dropped a number of hints about the record since it was revealed in 2019. Soon after the announcement, Mustaine said that he had written over 500 guitar riffs for the in-progress album.

In the latest news, a recent photo suggests Mustaine has moved on to vocal tracks. The image was posted to Instagram by Mustaine’s son Justis. As the caption revealed, “Vocals are being laid down and they sound KILLER! Quiet when recording please…  #MEGADETH.”

Megadeth has faced a number of major obstacles in releasing the upcoming record, their sixteenth to date. Mustaine’s 2019 throat cancer diagnosis forced the group to postpone a number of tour dates. Bassist David Ellefson has also suggested that COVID-19 is a factor, given the uncertainty surrounding live music.

Even so, there are positive signs that the record is coming along. Last month, Mustaine revealed a working title for the record during an appearance on the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp Masterclass. Tentatively titled The Sick, The Dying And The Dead, a Reddit user even captured a snippet of a new song.

Despite the many obstacles faced by the group, Dave Mustaine has remained optimistic. Last year, Mustaine talked to Alternative Press about his latest book  Rust in Peace: The Inside Story of the Megadeth Masterpiece. In the interview, Mustaine remarked,There are a lot of interesting things happening in the land of Megadeth. Every day, it’s like summer camp, and I love it.”
