Destroy Boys unleash their ferocious new single “Muzzle”—watch

It’s definitely a big week for punk rock trio Destroy Boys. On Wednesday, they officially announced that they have signed to Hopeless Records.

To help celebrate the new signing, Destroy Boys have unleashed their ferocious new single “Muzzle” along with a chaotic animated video.

Despite the unpredictability amid the coronavirus pandemic, Destroy Boys have managed to crank out plenty of new tunes recently. Last year, they followed up their 2018 full-length Make Room with two new singles – “Fences” and “Honey I’m Home.”

Now, Destroy Boys are making their Hopeless Records debut with their new single “Muzzle.” As their first new piece of music in 2021, Destroy Boys tackle how to regain your power during times when you feel out of control in “Muzzle.” The blistering new track was written by vocalist and guitarist Violet Mayugba and serves as an anthem for the unseen. Ultimately, “Muzzle” was inspired by a toxic relationship where Mayugba felt incredibly mistreated.

The intensity of “Muzzle” gives fans the perfect taste of what’s to come from Destroy Boys’ next album. Currently, the trio is working with producer Will Yip (Citizen, Mannequin Pussy, Circa Survive) on their new music.

As well, the single also solidifies their new partnership with Hopeless Records. For Destroy Boys, they are thrilled to be part of such a diverse label. In particular, the number of women on Hopeless Records’ staff is something that caught their eye early on.

“It’s important to have women, and queer people, people of color, and differently-abled people in all aspects of the music industry, to have that support. Now we’re able to have more of a say in who we work with, and when you have that kind of control, you should do good with it,” vocalist and guitar Alexia Roditis says. “We’re really excited to be in a place where we can create the album we want to create. They took our project very personally; they were really excited about us, and they don’t seem to want to infringe on what we have. [They] want us to maintain our own vision.”

Destroy Boys are set to hit the road with the Maine, All Time Low, the Story So Far and more on the Sad Summer Festival this summer. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 run of shows was postponed until 2021. Currently, the tour is set to kick off on Jul. 9 in Orlando. Movements, Grayscale and Yours Truly help round out the Sad Summer Fest 2021 lineup.
