Did the Used just confirm that My Chemical Romance tour rumor was true?
Throughout a large portion of 2020, there was speculation that the Used may reunite with My Chemical Romance for a few of their return tour shows. However, after the coronavirus pandemic postponed MCR’s entire tour, the rumors seemingly disappeared. Now, it looks like those My Chemical Romance and the Used shows may have happened after […]
Then, the Used seemingly fueled the rumors even more when they canceled their European tour and slot at Slam Dunk. Their reason? An opportunity came up that they just couldn’t refuse. Fans began to speculate that the Used had canceled these shows because they were offered a slot on My Chemical Romance’s tour.
Amidst all of the speculation, McCracken was finally asked why he kept teasing that the Used were on MCR’s return tour. The frontman toldThe Green Room with Neil Griffiths that he’d been saying they’re on the tour because they should be. As well, he also told Shane Told on his Lead Singer Syndromepodcast that he was mainly joking about the tour, but would still love for the Used to be on it.
“I think we made a big deal about the relationship from the beginning,” McCracken said. “I’ve been friends with Gerard [Way] since the band broke up.[…] I saw him at a Frank Ieroshow about four years ago and that’s when we reconnected. I do like to tell jokes from stage but I texted him and was like ‘Dude, I hope you guys know that these are all just jokes to make us smile, but we would all be honored to tour with you.’”
“[I’m] really glad these guys [MCR] are back together and touring again,” Howard said. “And definitely, at some point, you are going to see us on tour together.”
Now, it looks like all of those “jokes” McCracken made were true after all. Howard recently revealed to fans that the Used were supposed to be on a few of the now-postponed shows.
“We would tour with My Chem again,” Howard says. “We were supposed to be on a show or two on that last tour, we were supposed to be on a couple [of] shows I think.”
For now, we are just going to have to wait and see if the Used end up joining My Chemical Romance on their rescheduled return shows. Due to the pandemic, MCR were forced to postpone their sold-out tour to later this year. As it stands, the tour is set to kick off in June in the United Kingdom.
