Back in December, Eminem surprised fans by releasing his new album Music To Be Murdered By – Side B. The album features collabs with Dr. Dre and Ty Dolla $ign among others. As well, it includes various controversial lyrics that the internet couldn’t help but analyze after the LP’s release.

Along with responding to those comments Billie Eilish made about him, Eminem seemingly continues to address his ongoing beef with Machine Gun Kelly on the new album.

However, Eminem also used Music To Be Murdered By – Side B to apologize to Rihanna for a decade-old diss. Back in 2019, the song “Things Get Worse” leaked online. However, the track was originally recorded for Eminem’s 2009 album Relapse, but was later scrapped. In the song, Eminem raps about taking Chris Brown’s side following his 2009 assault charges against Rihanna.

“I’m not playing, Rihanna, where’d you get the VD at,” he raps. “Let me add my two cents, of course I side with Chris Brown. I’d beat a bitch down too if she gave my dick an itch now.”

However, on his new track “Zeus,” Eminem offers an olive branch to Rihanna, apologizing “wholeheartedly” for the verse.

“And wholeheartedly, apologies Rihanna,” he raps. “For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri. It wasn’t meant to cause you grief.”

Now, Eminem has revealed he doesn’t even remember recording that verse on “Things Get Worse.” During a recent interview with SiriusXM, the rapper says that the leak of the song caught him off guard.

“Honest to God, I told Paul [Rosenberg] this when it first happened,” he says. “I was like, ‘First, I didn’t know how somebody got it. Second of all, I have no…zero recollection of even remembering doing that verse. Like, the rhyme scheme doesn’t even sound, like, familiar to me. So I was caught off guard, too. I was like, ‘What the fuck?! I said that?’”

Despite having no recollection of recording the verse, Eminem says it’s no excuse for what he chose to say. At the time of the song’s recording, Eminem was relearning how to rap following his battle with addiction.

“I said it and I was wrong for saying that, it was fucking stupid,” he continues. “With the Relapse record, when I was first started learning how to rap again because of the drug situation that I went through and having to relearn a lot of things, that was one of those things that was like, ‘Well, if it rhymes, say it,’” he continues. “That’s not even an excuse. I’m sure looking back now I should have thought better of it.”
