Norwegian guitarist details her forthcoming record and shares new single All Flights Cancelled.
The nine-track album was recorded with the 12-piece Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, known for their collaboration with Chick Corea and Joshua Redman.
Monumental and adventurous, the record reveals various facets of Mollestad. Guitar explorer, composer, arranger, improviser, collaborator, and, as the album’s title implies, mother. That latter role serves as the thematic focus. “I used to be reluctant about talking about gender and motherhood in relation to what I was doing as a musician,” says Hedvig.
The new single builds around a motorik beat, ascending guitar riff and prog-like keyboards that evoke Bobak, Jons, Malone’s Motherlight.
Maternity Beat will be released on 18 November via Rune Grammofon.
Hedvig Mollestad will be playing in London on 19 September at Cafe Oto and 20 September at Electrowerkz as part of Hedvig Mollestad Trio.
