Liverpool’s new guard of gallant rock and roll return with a song whose title you should definitely ignore. Sam Lambeth reviews.

Over the past 12 months or so, there must have been a number of times where you’ve missed live music. When your feet aren’t sticking to the floor. When your toilet hasn’t been overflowing with potent piss. When your ears are clear and bereft of a constant and reassuring ringing. Well, add “hearing Honey Motel’s new stonking song” to that list.

Yes, Honey Motel might sound like the kind of name a hipster beekeeper might call his hive, but these guys are all sting and no serenity. Keep It To Yourself is their latest opus, a vein-bulging anthem replete with rasping vocals, twisting riffs and epic drums.

Beginning with hazy keyboards and a reverb-drenched riff reminiscent of recent Kings of Leon, Keep It To Yourself soon erupts into a soaring chorus. “If there’s someone else, please keep it to yourself,” Honey Motel’s main man cries, his rasping voice tinged with rage and misery.

The chorus details the pain and turmoil of a breakup, delivered in a cathartic crunch of pounding drums and twisting guitars. By the time the song reaches its sudden but splendid end, you feel every inch of their pain.

Keep It To Yourself is a misnomer – spread this stuff around. The world needs to hear it. The world needs Honey Motel to be the number one holiday destination.
