I Call Fives are returning after a seven-year hiatus. The band revealed the news in style today, dropping a brand new cover of Saves The Day’s classic song “At Your Funeral.”

In a Feb. 5 Twitter post, the New Jersey pop-punk favorites dropped hints about an upcoming I Call Fives release. Now, the reimagined Saves The Day track is finally here, available via YouTube. The band have also announced their signing to Smartpunk Records and suggest that more music is on the way.

Throughout the years, several band members have been active with other projects. Soon after the band went on hiatus, guitarist Mike Joffe released a 2014 demo with his pop-punk act Golden Age. Original frontman James Corbi also recorded a number of tracks with his follow-up Blood Bank, including the 2017 trackHeaven.”

This is the first major I Call Fives news since they announced their indefinite hiatus in 2014. In fact, founding member Drew Conte suggests that the group never really planned to break up.

“Second chances only come so often,” Conte says. “We never really wanted to close the door on I Call Fives, but we weren’t quite ready to walk back through it, either. When Smartpunk approached us, nearly a decade since releasing new music, it just felt like the right time to get back together. We can’t wait to share what we have in store in 2021 and beyond. Be kind, friends.”

I Call Fives’ new song is a cover of  “At Your Funeral” by fellow New Jersey rockers Saves The Day. Like the original, a staple of the 2001 emo classic Stay What You Are, I Call Fives’ rendition offers a moving take on loss and remembrance.

There is still more to come from I Call Fives, who plan on releasing new music via Smartpunk later this year. I Call Fives have not revealed a major new release since they announced their 2012 Pure Noise debut I Call Fives.

Smartpunk label manager Matt Burns reveals that he is excited at the prospect of working with the group.

“It’s been really awesome to work with I Call Fives after being friends and fans of the band for a long time,” Burns says. “It’s refreshing to finally call them family, and great to see them pick back up right where they left off.”
