Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer is reportedly being extradited to Washington, D.C.

Iced Earth‘s Jon Schaffer is reportedly being extradited to Washington, D.C. following his involvement in the U.S. Capitol riots earlier this month.

Currently, the metal guitarist is in Indiana where he is being held in Marion County Jail.

Shortly after the U.S. Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, Jon Schaffer was identified amongst the crowd of Pro-Trump supporters. Then, he was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list for his involvement. Finally, on Jan. 18, Indiana police confirmed Schaffer had been arrested.

Currently, the metal guitarist is facing six charges including “engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building.” According to the tweet, Schaffer was allegedly one of the rioters who sprayed police with bear spray.

According to WishTV, some of the other charges Schaffer is facing include “disrupting the orderly conduct of government business” and “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority.”

Last week, reports emerged that government lawyers are requesting that the judge in his case deny his bail. WishTV reported that lawyers are asking the judge to not grant Schaffer a bond when he goes in front of the U.S. magistrate.

For now, Schaffer will remain in the Marion County Jail as a federal prisoner. However, he will eventually have to prove to the federal magistrate that he is not a threat to the public or himself if released on bail.

As it turns out, others who have been arrested for the insurrection at the Capitol have been granted bail. However, they had to surrender their firearms, avoid contact with other alleged Capitol rioters and stay away from all state capitol buildings.

Now, it looks like Schaffer may be extradited to Washington, D.C. for his involvement in the Capitol riots. According to Indiana Public Media, he waived the preliminary hearing after he was charged with multiple federal crimes from the U.S. Capitol riots. As a result, his attorney and legal team have reportedly agreed to handle all further proceedings in Washington, D.C.

During the Jan. 6 riots, Schaffer was seen wearing a baseball cap with the slogan Oath Keepers Lifetime Member. According to the Anti-Defamation League, the Oath Keepers are a large, loosely organized group of right-wing anti-government extremists who are part of a militia movement. Collectively, they believe the federal government has been infiltrated by a conspiracy that is trying to strip American citizens of their rights.

After Schaffer was identified during the U.S. Capitol riots, his Iced Earth bandmates released a statement denouncing the events that transpired. However, they failed to address Schaffer’s involvement in the insurrection. Additionally, singer Stu Block attempted to clarify his stance on the riots after a now-deleted post seemingly showed he was in support of the U.S. Capitol breach.

Last week, we learned that Iced Earth’s label Century Media may be taking action following Schaffer’s arrest. Both of Schaffer’s projects – Iced Earth and Demons & Wizards – have disappeared from the label’s online roster. Although the bands no longer appear on the label’s current roster, they are also missing from the roster of former artists. As well, both of the band’s merch is no longer available on Century Media’s webstore.

Earlier this month, Iced Earth fans took to Schaffer’s recent Kickstarter campaign to express their thoughts on his involvement in the Jan. 6 events. Not too long ago, the guitarist launched a Kickstarter campaign for Wicked Words & Epic Tales, “a collection of Jon Schaffer’s lyrics, interviews and a chronicle of the artwork that they inspired.” The campaign has earned 666 backers and raised over $100,000.

However, many fans are now requesting refunds from the Kickstarter, sharing that they regret ever supporting Schaffer. Meanwhile, others are praising the guitarist’s recent actions and say that they cannot wait for his book to arrive.
