It’s been almost four years since AFI put out their self-titled 10th studio album, also known as The Blood Album. Since its release, fans have been streaming songs such as “Snow Cats,” “Pink Eyes” and “Feed From The Floor” nonstop. However, listeners have been patiently waiting to hear new music from the band for quite some time now.

Now, it looks like the wait to hear new material is almost over. This week, AFI rang in the New Year by confirming their 11th studio album will be out before the end of 2021. In the meantime, fans can expect to hear some new songs “very soon.”

With the end of a year that has been, at best, challenging for all, we have news that we hope may bring you some joy,” AFI say. Very soon, new songs shall be yours. Before the year’s end, our 11th album will follow. We could not be more happy with our latest work and hope you will feel the same. Thank you for joining us upon this next journey. We are thrilled to take it and honoured to have you at our side.”

Back in April 2020, AFI’s Jade Puget told Kerrang! that they were working on their next album.

We’ve been working on a new record,” Puget said. “Davey [Havok] and I sat down for a long time putting together the song list for it, and it’s really exciting. I’m excited for people to hear it and see what the reaction is.”

Puget went on to say that this next record will be unexpected and is different from what fans have heard in the past.

“It’s an eclectic record,” he continued. “I’d much rather put something out there that’s a little bit left-of-centre rather than try to do something that’s expected.”

At this time, it’s unknown exactly when AFI plan to release their next album. However, it appears fans won’t be waiting too much longer to finally hear the new material.

Although AFI haven’t released a new album since 2017, Puget and Havok have been hard at work with their side project Blaqk Audio. Last year, they released their new album Beneath the Black Palms which includes the tracks “Consort,” “Hiss” and “A Distant Light.” The latest release follows up their 2019 LP Only Things We Love.
