This week, the Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman revealed how he missed out on signing the duo before their rise to fame.
Years ago, Jared Leto was introduced to an unknown brother-sister duo. It turns out that that duo was Billie Eilish and FINNEAS who were just starting to leave their mark on the music industry.
“I met them through [film producer] Emma Ludbrook and [agent] Tom Windish, I believe,” he said. “They weren’t signed, and I thought that maybe I would try and sign them, they were so incredibly talented and just special people. The music is one thing, but I think they’re just incredibly intelligent, really empathetic, just really good people, and I quite like them a lot.”
In fact, he was so impressed, he asked them to perform a few songs at a star-studded dinner party he was hosting.
“I said, ‘Hey, will you guys come and play a couple of songs?’ and they were, like, ‘Yeah, sure,’ and they showed up with a Guitar Center p.a.,” he continues. “[They] played the most heartbreakingly beautiful music with, like, you know, it shouldn’t have sounded that good, it was impossible that it sounded that good.”
Among the guests that night was Leonardo Dicaprio who was equally impressed by Eilish and FINNEAS.
“I remember Leo DiCaprio was there and a couple of other people and they were just, like, ‘How did you find these people and, like, ‘who are they?’ Everyone was just jaws on the floor, 12 people max at my place in the hills. Yeah, just great people. I’m huge fans, too.”
Despite Eilish eventually getting signed elsewhere, she has still bumped into Leto over the years. Back in 2018, she joined Thirty Seconds To Mars on stage at Music Midtown where they performed “Hurricane.”
2021 is set to be a big year for Jared Leto, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS. Jared Leto is reprising his controversial role as Joker for Zack Snyder‘s cut of Justice League which arrives on HBO Max later this year. Earlier this month, David Ayer continued to tease that a new cut of Suicide Squad may happen with an unseen clip of Leto’s Joker.
Over the past week, Eilish has gotten candid about her rise to fame over the years. She recently explained why her loved ones cared more about that photo of her in a tank top last year than she did. As well, she explained what she misses most about mosh pits as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cancel and delay shows.
Along with all of this, Eilish finally released her collab with Rosalía “Lo Vas A Olvidar” last week. “Lo Vas A Olvidar” marks the first new music to arrive from Eilish in 2021. In 2020, she released a carefree video for “Therefore I Am” which followed up “No Time To Die” and “my future.”
In December, Eilish seemingly confirmed that her next musical era is officially on the way. As well, her upcoming documentary The World’s A Little Blurry is set to arrive on Feb. 26. Last month, viewers got their first look at what they can expect from the documentary in its first trailer.
