It has been noted that last month, a guitar pick signed and illustrated by the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain became the most expensive pick ever sold, after it was bought at an auction, as reported by Loudwire.

The item was sold for a whopping amount of $14,678, and it dates back to Nirvana’s early days from when they were promoting their debut album “Bleach” in 1990.

The pick has a “Kurdt Kobain” signature and a hand-drawn illustration of the Dunlop Tortex turtle logo, and it was acquired in 1991 during the demo recordings for Nirvana’s sophomore album “Nevermind”.

The individual who owned it had it among a batch of other “Bleach”-era items, which he obtained when he attended a show at The Club Underground in Madison, Wisconsin, where Nirvana was recording “Nevermind” with Butch Vig.

The lucky bidder was a longtime Nirvana fan named Shaun Ertischek, who told Guitar World:

“I knew this piece was special when I saw it come up at auction. Guitars and other equipment used by Kurt Cobain have gone for exorbitant prices.

“I often try to get my hands on guitar picks during live concerts. But there is usually no way to authenticate them. This pick, however, was signed by Kurt on one side, and he drew on the other side. His personality comes through in this little doodle.

“It feels surreal to own this piece of music history. I haven’t seen anything like it before, and it is truly one-of-a-kind. Kurt was obviously an incredible singer, songwriter, and guitarist. It is [exceedingly] rare and special to have something played by his hand and subsequently signed.”

This is far from the first time that Nirvana and Cobain-related memorabilia fetch impressive prices at auctions, with smashed guitars belonging to the late frontman sold for more than half a million dollars, while some of his iconic (and intact) axes have also set record-high prices at auctions.
