Listen to this! Barbarian Hermit release new track

Great news for fans of Manchester Doom rockers Barbarian Hermit as they reissue a remastered version of their debut record One and it includes a new track.

The new song, Through The Periscope of the Deadly Sub, is a previously unreleased, 9 minute, sludge-doom epic that is being added to the 2016 record remastered by Chris Fielding that is coming out via APF Records on 29 January.

This was an album where Barbarian Hermit were finding their sound that some have called stoner, doom or sludge, but the band say it was straight up riffage, unconstrained by any of the tropes the underground scene gravitated towards.

“Through the Periscope of the Deadly Sub is one of the first songs we wrote and also one of the heaviest so it’s great that it’s finally getting the release it deserves,” says guitarist Adam Robertshaw.

“The song was inspired by a nuclear submarine and Chris Fielding has really captured that same devastating power and sense of claustrophobic dread on his remaster.”

This reissue follows  their most recent album, Solitude and Savagery, released in 2018 full of  downtuned, fuzz-laden guitars over elephantine grooves, It was produced with  Fielding at Skyhammer Studios in a session that resulted in  seven bruising tracks of pummeling groove metal smouldering with swampy rawness and feral energy.

The band went out of the road for two big UK tours before opening up Bloodstock Festival in 2019.

One was the first release from the band to feature vocalist Simon Scarlett who left in 2017, and he rejoined in mid-2020 replacing Ed Campbell.

The Barbarian Hermit line-up on One was Mike Regan (guitars), Adam Robertshaw (guitars), Chris Wood (bass), Loz Brindley (drums), Simon Scarlett (vocals).
