Metallica are back with a pummeling new single, “Lux Æterna.” The release comes ahead of their 12th studio record, 72 Seasons, arriving April 14.

Additionally, the metal legends will embark on an extensive world tour in the new year. Kicking off the run April 27 in Amsterdam, the band will make stops in several cities until September 2024. Support includes AP digital cover stars Architects, Ice Nine Kills, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch and Mammoth WVH. Presales begin at 9 a.m. local time Nov. 30 here.

“I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry,” James Hetfield says of the album title.

Earlier this year, Metallica received a proper revival on Netflix’s Stranger Things, where local metalhead Eddie Munson performed a sublime cover of “Master of Puppets” to fend off Vecna.
