Dave Mustaine recently joined in for an interview with Revolver when he spoke about his 2010 autobiography, Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir.

Dave Mustaine truth revealed

In the book, the musician referred to himself as “the leader of the band” when he was in Metallica in the early Eighties.  The interviewer noted that that was “quite a statement to make” given that Mustaine’s former bandmates James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are “such alpha males,” and Mustaine had a very different interpretation of the early Metallica hierarchy.

“Oh no. I am clearly the alpha male between the three of us,” Mustaine said. “Why did I have to do everything when I was in the band? Why did they always ask me talk to the promoters and collect the cash? Why was I the one who had to do the fighting? Why did I have to talk in between songs?”

Former Metallica member Ronald McGovney went on to take note of the comments made by Mustaine on the matter. McGovney proceeded to claim that what Mustaine stated in the interview was not how the things panned out. It was rather the opposite:

Taking to Twitter, McGovney sent out a response to the Tweet as he wrote the following:

“Dave talked to the promoters? Collected the cash? James didn’t play guitar before Metallica? That’s not how I remember those days. Just the opposite actually”
