Phoebe Bridgers had the best response to the ‘SNL’ guitar smashing criticism
On Feb. 6, Saturday Night Live was hosted by Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy and featured musical performances from Grammy-Award nominated artist Phoebe Bridgers. During her SNL debut, Bridgers took her “I Know The End” performance to the next level by smashing her electric guitar onstage. Now, Bridgers is reacting to the criticism she’s received […]
Now, Bridgers is reacting to the criticism she’s received for her guitar-smashing decision. As well, she had the best responses to singer David Crosby who doesn’t have many positive things to say about her performance.
Shortly after her performance aired, Bridgers earned some criticism after she decided to smash her guitar onstage. For many, they thought the smashing of the instrument was unnecessary. Some also argue she could’ve donated the equipment she destroyed.
What a waste. Instead, she should have donate it to a school or someone who need it more.
Hey @phoebe_bridgers it’s pretty punk rock to donate a guitar to a child in need instead of smashing it on live TV. Talk about craving attention and imitating other rock stars of years past. You’re better than that! #yawn
As well, she also made it known that she didn’t actually ruin a perfectly good monitor. As it turns out, Saturday Night Live provided a fake one, especially for the performance.
Then, earlier this week, singer David Crosby weighed in on the controversy. One fan asked what Crosby thought of Bridgers’ performance to which he replied with “pathetic.”
Then, on Feb. 9, Crosby followed up with more of an explanation for his criticism.
“Guitars are for playing ..making music …..not stupidly bashing them on a fake monitor for childish stage drama …..I really do NOT give a flying F if others have done it before It’s still STUPID”

After Crosby’s tweet, one Twitteruser argued that women in music are judged more harshly for the same actions done by their male counterparts.
“What’s pathetic is the double standard that a woman is being judged for doing something a man has done a million times and somehow that’s cool but in this case it’s not? That’s not even remotely okay.”
For Crosby, he explains that he doesn’t like it when artists smash instruments regardless of their gender.
“I didn’t like it when men did it either …it’s stupid drama …poor substitute for talent …..”

Phoebe Bridgers could play “I Know the End” and smash a guitar every single day for the rest of my life and I would love every single performance. https://t.co/PbQxYtlBob
How come Machine Gun Kelly can break a guitar on SNL and get zero backlash, but Phoebe Bridgers is some big bad villain for it? We all know why. Women in rock are always getting mistreated.
