Finally, back in April 2020, O’Callaghan announced the return of John The Ghost with the groovy new single “Rolled Down Window.” Shortly after, listeners were treated to another new song called “Live Once.” The track, which inspired the name of his debut album, shows a sugary-sweet side of O’Callaghan listeners haven’t truly heard before.
“This song is about more,” he said. “We’re always searching for more even after we find it. Suppose I need to focus less on what could be and more on what is. Either way, I think I enjoy the feeling of this tune more than its meaning but the jury is still out.”
Now, O’Callaghan is back with a stirring new video for “Drive,” directed by Lupe Bustos. The dreamy track highlights his lyricism fans have heard evolve over the years. With nostalgic sounding guitars and O’Callaghan’s distinct vocals, “Drive” is another promising preview of what’s to come from I ONLY WANT TO LIVE ONCE.
As it turns out, this debut John The Ghost album kind of happened by surprise. It all started with just one song, but before long, O’Callaghan realized he had enough material for a full-length release.
“What started out as a single song, turned into 3, turned into 7, which all turned into my debut 9 song album,” O’Callaghan said. “A friend of mine interpreted the title, I ONLY WANT TO LIVE ONCE, as a negative, when in reality I meant for it to highlight my lust for life. Live today because you live once.”
I ONLY WANT TO LIVE ONCE arrives on Feb. 12 and pre-orders are available here.
