In less than two months,St. Vincent is finally releasing her new studio album Daddy’s Home. The forthcoming LP follows her Grammy Award-winning album MASSEDUCTION and marks her first full-length release in nearly four years.
Now, St. Vincent is further teasing the debut of Daddy’s Home in a nostalgic new trailer. The retro-inspired visual offers a quick preview into the style and decade that ultimately inspired her next music era.
Earlier this month, St. Vincent released her groovy new track “Pay Your Way In Pain” along with a cinematic video that is a major throwback to the ’70s. Prior to the song’s release, St. Vincent told Mojo that she’s been deeply inspired by records released over 50 years ago. As a result, her new collection of music draws massive influence from some of the biggest artists of that decade.
“I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity,” St. Vincent told Mojo last year. “I was interested in going back to the music I’ve listened to more than any other –Stevie Wonder records from the early ’70s, Sly And The Family Stone. I studied at the feet of those masters.”
St. Vincent is now offering another preview of the world inside Daddy’s Home. This week, she dropped an album teaser reminiscent of a retro crime drama. In the visual, St. Vincent can be seen suspensefully looking around corners as if she is being followed by someone.
Along with receiving mysterious phone calls, St. Vincent also rocks a blonde bob and old-fashioned clothes that are an obvious nod to the decade that inspired this new album. As well, if viewers listen closely, they can even hear a few snippets of unreleased songs in the official album teaser.

According to a press release, St. Vincent began writing several songs for Daddy’s Home in the winter of 2019. During that time, her father was released from prison after being incarcerated for nine years. Earlier this month, St. Vincent revealed to The Guardian that her father’s release actually inspired the title track of her new album. However, the LP’s title is also a reflection of where she is in her life.
“In some ways, the roles have reversed–I feel like ‘Daddy’ half the time, you know?,” she tells The Guardian. “He’s a person and every person has a lot of facets and a lot of shit they’ve done wrong and good qualities. So it just is. That’s not very poetic, but it just is.”
In February, St. Vincent told The New Cue that she and Antonoff recorded Daddy’s Home at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
“[I] wanted to do this sleazy, grimy record and Jack was fully on board,” she told The New Cue. “He whipped out some great Wurlitzer playing, super funky, then he’d get on the drums and do totally the right vibe. And then he was playing this fucking awesome bass, ripping it. It was cool to get to see Jack bust out these chops. And same here, I actually have some deep understanding of harmony that I keep to myself most of the time but here I bust it out.”
Although it’s unknown which songs St. Vincent will be performing on SNL, fans can likely expect “Pay Your Way In Pain” to make an appearance. The ’70s-inspired video for the single is available to watch below.
