Now, it looks like Swift has broken another record on the Billboardcharts. However, there’s a reason why she probably won’t be celebrating this latest feat.
Back in July, Taylor Swift released her surprise eighth studio album folklore. The LP was officially classified as alternative, making it her third genre classification in her career. After the release of folklore this summer, the album quickly topped the charts and is now the highest-selling album of 2020. According to the Wall Street Journal, the LP has sold over 1.95 million copies in the United States so far this year.
folklore also went on to debut at No.1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Albums chart. Then, shortly following the release of her second surprise album evermore, Swift continued to make chart history. evermoreofficially debuted at No.1 on the Alternative Albums chart and the Billboard200. According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, evermore sold 329,000 equivalent album units in the Dec. 11 – 17 week. Of that sum, 155,000 units were pure album sales.
Along with this, evermore‘s lead single “willow” debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is her seventh track to debut at No.1 on this chart and the second to do so in this year alone. However, it looks like “willow” has officially broken a Hot 100 record in an unexpected way.
This week, “willow” saw the biggest Hot 100 drop in the chart’s history. The evermore single fell from the coveted No.1 spot all the way to No. 38. According to Chart Data, this fall is the biggest to ever happen to a No.1 song in Hot 100 history.

Despite this, Swift managed to hold the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 again this week. evermore is spending its second consecutive week at the top of the chart. According to Billboard, the album earned 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 24.
As an intro to the album, the song runs only 37 seconds long. Despite this, “Beautiful Trip” entered the Hot 100 at the 100th spot. This record was previously held by Japanese comedian PIKOTARO‘s 44-second long song “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen).” That song went on to debut at No. 77 on the Hot 100 in October 2016.
