On Jan. 6, Pro-Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol building to reject the results of the Presidential election and pressure Republican lawmakers to support Trump’s attempts to overturn the election results. The protests arrived as the Senate began to certify the Electoral College votes that are in favor of Presidental-elect Joe Biden.
Currently, D.C. police are bracing for potential additional protests in the next coming days. In the meantime, citywide curfews in Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas went into effect at 6 P.M. ET. The Senate resumed the process of certifying the Electoral College votes late Wednesday evening.
Of course, the ongoing matters in Washington, D.C. warranted a response from Trump on social media. In a video shared on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Trump asked the protests to stop. However, he still stands by the belief the election was “stolen.”
“We had an election that was stolen from us,” Trump stated. “It was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side.”
Twitter and Facebook quickly slapped a warning on the video. Eventually, however, all three platforms removed the entire video. Twitter blocked the ability for the video to be liked, commented on and retweeted due to the risk of an outbreak of violence.
I’ve never seen this before. Twitter is now flagging Trump’s disinfo-filled message to his supporters, and blocking replies, likes, RTs, and off-platform shares. Strong moderation from Twitter! pic.twitter.com/C39IePauFp
After sharing three tweets that Twitter claim contained “repeated and severe violations” of its civic integrity policy, Trump’s account has been locked for 12 hours. The Twitter Safety account shared various tweets further explaining the situation.
As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy. https://t.co/k6OkjNG3bM
This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.
As well, it looks like Twitter is considering suspending Trump’s account for good if he continues to violate the platform’s policies.
“Future violations of the Twitter Rules, including our Civic Integrity or Violent Threats policies, will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”

Based on everything that transpired on Wednesday, various Democratic lawmakers are calling upon Vice President Mike Penceto invoke the 25th Amendment. By doing so, Pence can officially remove Trump from office. Various lawmakers have flocked to social media to share their thoughts.
I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment.
Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.
We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.
