‘Umbrella Academy’ star Elliot Page files for divorce from Emma Portner

The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page and choreographer Emma Portner have announced they are getting a divorce.

The couple was married for three years.

Back in January 2018, Page and Portner surprised fans by announcing they were married.

“Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife. @emmaportner”

Now, the couple has confirmed they are divorcing after three years of marriage. Earlier this week, Page and Portner shared a joint statement, revealing that they separated over the summer. Despite filing for divorce, the two remain close friends.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the statement says. “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”

The news arrives just a month after Elliot Page announced he is transgender and nonbinary. Back in December, the Oscar-nominated actor released a lengthy statement on social media publicly revealing the news.

“I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” Page wrote. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.”

Following Page’s announcement, Portner penned an emotional Instagram showing further support.

“I am so proud of @elliotpage,” Portner said. “Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”

Shortly after this, Page thanked fans for their support in another Instagram post.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love and support has been the greatest gift. Stay safe. Be there for each other. If you are able, support @transanta and @translifeline See you in 2021 Xoxo Elliot”

Page is currently gearing up to reprise his role as Vanya Hargreeves in the Umbrella Academy season 3. Filming is expected to begin early next month. However, it looks like pre-production for the Netflix show is already underway.

Over the past week, showrunner Steve Blackman and actors Justin H. Min and  David Castaneda have shared some exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the preparation for season 3.

The Hargreeves siblings are getting some new company in season 3. Following that massive season 2 cliffhanger, the Umbrella Academy finally introduced fans to the Sparrow Academy last month. As well, Blackman shared an exclusive look at the first episode of season 3 back in November.

Along with the new characters joining the series, fans are also speculating that My Chemical Romance frontman and TUA co-creator Gerard Way may finally make a cameo in season 3.

Over the past few weeks, the Umbrella Academy fans have also noticed that Page’s name has been updated in all of the episode’s credits.
