Since the inception of Nirvana, their iconic live photos and videos have truly stood the test of time. For those of us that were too young to remember or not even born yet, these visuals allow us to see just how Nirvana became of the one most legendary bands in music history.

Now, thanks to photographer Richard Davis, fans are getting another look at Nirvana’s early days. Back in 1989, Davis photographed Nirvana in Manchester, England. The gig, which took place on Oct. 24, was the second-ever concert the band played in the United Kingdom.

However, it’s taken over 30 years for these rare photos to see the light of day. It turns out, Davis thought he had lost the images forever. The photographer tells the Manchester Evening News, who published the photos this week, that he thought the negatives were stolen.

“For years I was convinced that someone had nicked the negatives,” he said. “But about two months ago I was going through my kids stuff and found it among the old primary school photos. I looked at it and thought, ‘Oh my God, I thought I’d lost them.’”

The photos show Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and former drummer Chad Channing in a stuffy Manchester concert venue. Amidst chaotic stage divers, Cobain can be seen hiding behind his signature blonde hair while slamming away on his guitar.
