Maroon is free.

I filmed and edited a mini documentary today. I hope I lose followers over this.

“Maroon is free.” chronicles the moments this morning just after Russell Maroon Shoatz was granted compassionate release after serving 50 years in prison. In the film I ask his son and my good friend, Russell III, what the first thing he wants to say and do when he sees his dad on the outside.

When we fight, we win.

We will bring Mumia Abu-Jamal home.
We will bring Mutulu Shakur home.
We will bring Sundiata Acoli home.
We will bring Jamil Al-Amin home.
We will bring Joe Joe Bowen home.
We will bring Leonard Peltier home.

Russell Maroon Shoatz is a veteran Black Panther who has been incarcerated since 1972.

He is currently suffering from Stage 4 colorectal cancer with a terminal diagnosis that has caused a complete blockage of his digestive tract and requires parenteral nutrition through an IV in order to survive.

Maroon has not received adequate care from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Since October 11, 2021, he has not been given any nutrition through his IV, effectively starving him to death.

On October 25, 2021 at 9:30am, he met before Philadelphia Judge Kai Scott to plead for compassionate release.

This film begins at 10:20am.
