PHL Free Palestine Coalition (May 22, 2021 // Philadelphia, PA)

The Philadelphia Free Palestine Coalition (PFPC) stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine, who are once again facing aggression at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces. As it stands, Israeli air strikes have killed 20 Palestinians in Gaza, including 9 children, following the injury of hundreds in Jerusalem by the Israeli police and occupying army.

This aggression comes in the wake of the ongoing effort to evict 6 Palestinian families from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. The events at Sheikh Jarrah are only the most recent iteration of the much longer ethnic cleansing campaign the Israeli state has waged against the Palestinian people since 1948, known as the Nakba, or “catastrophe” in Arabic.

Israel’s actions do not occur in a vacuum. Israel is a powerful player in the global tech and arms manufacturing industries, and it plays an important role in aiding the United States’ imperialist policies in West Asia and Africa.

The subjugation, killing, displacement, and imprisonment of the Palestinian people is sustained by our global capitalist system: the same system that launches imperialist wars, imprisons and polices Black Americans, evicts long-time residents from their neighborhoods, and crushes the working classes in every corner of the world.

As residents of Philadelphia, in the past year, we have been engaged in struggles for racial justice, universal housing, universal healthcare, increased funding for public schools, and green jobs; all with fierce opposition from the Philadelphia police, and their capitalist sponsors.

When we fight for liberation in our city, we must stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, since we share a common enemy: the global capitalist system.
Save Sheikh Jarrah! Free Palestine! Free the World!
