In a moment in music where genres are becoming a thing of the past, the idea of a punk and country collaboration isn’t as foreign as it used to be.

For one, country artists have really diversified themselves outside of radio hits. Whether it be through their music taking influences from other genres, including punk, or the artists standing up for social and political causes, country music isn’t monolithic and shouldn’t be shrugged off entirely by rock fans.

If you need a little more convincing, we dreamed up 10 country and punk collabs that we wish were real. In fact, they very well could be in the future as genre-bending collaborations are a regular practice among musicians. You can check that out below.

Orville Peck and YUNGBLUD

Orville Peck, who’s also the latest Alternative Press cover star, has taken the country genre and made it his own. His music is groundbreaking, his fashion is eye-catching and he’s an LGBTQ+ icon in a genre that has a tendency to be associated with conservative values. He’s following his own path, which is why he’s become a breakout star. Actually, his journey reminds us of YUNGBLUD. YUNGBLUD always promotes individuality and stands up for what he believes in, garnering him a huge fanbase. Also, across various collaborations and covers, he’s proven that he can nail any genre. Why not an alt-country song with the fringed cowboy himself? Just imagine how epic the music video would be, too.

The Chicks and Green Day

This collaboration makes sense because the Chicks and Green Day have both been outspoken about politics, particularly in criticizing President George W. Bush and the Iraq War in the 2000s. The Chicks also recently put out arguably their most dynamic album to date, Gaslighter, which takes obvious influences from alternative, rock, blues and more. Green Day are just as iconic, so we could only imagine a high-energy collaboration best performed live. Oh, and maybe a Green Day cover of “Wide Open Spaces” while we’re at it.

Shania Twain and Marilyn Manson

All right, this one is hilariously absurd, but we would blast this collab if it ever came true. This came from one YouTuber’s mashup of Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People” and Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman,” which oddly works, so we can’t rule out an original track featuring both of them.

Eric Church and Metallica

Eric Church isn’t your typical country artist. In fact, he isn’t afraid to rock out and get heavy on some of his tracks. In 2012, he opened for Metallica, so they definitely run in similar circles. The country star could definitely keep up with the veteran rockers and make a song that would make us want to bang our heads and scream every word.

Willie Nelson and Ozzy Osbourne

Willie Nelson is a country legend who stands up for what he believes is right. He’s also a little goofy and a total stoner, so we want him to collaborate with Ozzy Osbourne just for the hilarious behind-the-scenes studio footage. Aside from that, they’re both legends in their own right, so there’s no way they could make a bad track.

Taylor Swift and Dashboard Confessional

While Taylor Swift is an artist who started out in country music and has since gone pop and then alternative, deep down, she’s a scene kid at heart. She’s expressed her love for Dashboard Confessional several times in public, and a collaboration between them would guarantee to break our hearts a hundred times over. She surprised her best friend with a private performance from the band for her birthday, so we know she has their number. Plus, it’d be amazing to see Swift return to her country roots to perform a song with Dashboard.

Cassadee Pope and Panic! At The Disco

Hey Monday vocalist Cassadee Pope and Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie aren’t strangers. They toured together on Fall Out Boy’s Believers Never Die Part Deux tour in 2009 and later performed together on Lip Sync Battle in 2016. After their killer performance of “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” we want to hear what else they could come up with if they were actually singing the words themselves. We have a feeling that it’d be total magic, but we’ll just have to wait and hope.

Kacey Musgraves and Paramore

Kacey Musgraves is one of the most scene country artists out there. It seems like there isn’t anyone who doesn’t like her music, even country music haters. The same goes with Paramore: They’re one of the alt scene’s favorite bands of all time. Hayley Williams and Musgraves are already friends. They’ve rocked out to Dashboard Confessional before together and even performed a cover of “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” so now they just need to get in the studio.

Dolly Parton and Foo Fighters

Dolly Parton is a country legend, and Foo Fighters are one of the biggest rock bands of all time. If either artist was going to collaborate with someone from the opposite genre, it needs to be each other because of that status. Parton has also rocked out in the past, particularly with several covers. There’s no doubt she could fit right in with the Foo.

Carrie Underwood and blink-182

Carrie Underwood surprised us when she proclaimed her love for the Machine Gun Kelly track “drunk face,” further revealing that she was a major blink-182 fan back in the day. It only seems right for her to go back to her scene days and collab with blink, even if it’s just to cover one of their classic tracks. It’d likely be a long-awaited dream come true for her, so it’s a win-win situation.
