I awaited this album with anticipation. I’ve been a Belvedere fan for more than two decades, and I felt the same happiness about this material as I felt with their previous recordings. Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense is their highly anticipated sixth full-length album, announced a couple of months ahead of its release date. The labels and the band spent a lot of their time promoting this material over social media, so there’s no chance you somehow missed the news. It’s also their first album with a brand new line-up. To serve as a reminder, Scott Marshall and Jason Sinclair left the band a couple of years ago to form Fizzgigs. Equally good Dan Wollach and Ryan Mumby took their spots on guitar and bass.

Belvedere announced this material with series of singles, such as Good Grief Retreat, Elephant March, Camera Obscura, and Chromatic. All these compositions indicated that the album will sound equally good or if not better than Revenge Of The Fifth, but damn, Belvedere surpassed all their previous works with this one. These four numbers served as a sneak peek of what the fans could expect of the brand new album, but wait until you hear the remainder of the Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense. Belvedere follows the aesthetics of Revenge Of The Fifth, but Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense contains even more melodies, harmonies, technicalities, dynamics, energy, and the advanced production that goes in favor of this release.

The entire group articulates like they’re writing music through mathematical equations. The structures and arrangements of these compositions are demonstrating how Belvedere spent a decent amount of time writing, composing, rehearsing, and finally recording these songs. These thoroughly planned maneuvers showcase tremendous accuracy, and their flawless performance leaves no space for any mistakes. The exceptional drumming offers series of technically demanding rhythmic sequences, followed by intense accentuations that are enhancing these tunes even more. The bass guitar supports these rhythmic acrobatics, but also provides immense support to the guitars by emitting powerful low-end tones. The guitars are continuously dueling through series of melodic and harmonic progressions. You may also stumble upon loads of other technically demanding delicacies that are defining this material. Each composition delivers a different theme that appeals to the listening apparatus and leaves the listener speechless after the listening.

Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense unquestionably far exceeded my expectations. It’s one of those technical skate punk albums that you’ll hold close to the turntable every time you crave some fast melodic tunes. There are also some guest appearances by renowned names in the game, such as Roger Lima of Less Than Jake, Dylan Toews of Wolfrik, and Rody Walker of Protest The Hero. Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense comes in different vinyl variants, so head over to Thousand Islands Records or Lockjaw Records for more detailed information about ordering.
