Dark electronic outfit, EX-Hyena, has teamed up with Control I’m Here to bring forth a fresh three-track EP. This new collaboration blends the gloomy intensity of darkwave with the energetic beats of EBM.

Ex-Hyena is a musical project created by Reuben Bettsak and Bo Barringer who specialize in crafting dystopian dance music for apocalyptic scenarios. Meanwhile, Control I’m Here is the brainchild of Paul Chenault, who is well-versed in delivering power-packed EBM infused with unusual genre elements and captivating grooves.

This latest release carries forward the bass-dominant and infectious rhythm synonymous with Control I’m Here, combined with the eerie vocal ambiance signature to Ex-Hyena. The duo, operating and releasing their work via the label and artistic collective Hush Ltd, has designed two new dance anthems guaranteed to set the dance floor on fire.

It started with a simple offer. Paul, the musical alchemist from Control I’m Here, presented two newly created songs to Reuben of Ex-Hyena. Upon hearing the tracks, a spark was ignited in Reuben’s creative mind, leading to a flow of lyrical and melodic ideas from the source of his artistic ideas.

“I really noticed the gigantic, heavy, but yet melodic sound and was immediately hooked,” Reuben said.

Paul adds, “Control I’m Here and Ex-Hyena remixed each other’s songs in the past, so I was really excited for the opportunity to work with them on original material that both pushed us forward sonically and artistically. It’s a pleasure and privilege to work with the electronic music duo from Boston as they have been one of my favorite acts.”

The EP commences with the chill-inducing, needle-sharp, and foreboding tones of “Tangled Up,” a sonic feast reminiscent of an unholy union between the raw industrial beats of Nitzer Ebb and the alien-like soundscape of Earthling-era Bowie. Next to follow is the spectral waltz of “Narciss,” a phantasmal echo of its precursor that teeters on the edge of chaos with its unpredictable collapses.

Further down this rabbit hole, we encounter a brooding, filmic interpretation of The Sisters of Mercy classic, “Afterhours.” The haunting chords and tempestuous rhythm will spark memories of Einstürzende Neubauten.

EX-Hyena and Control I’m Here’s collaborative EP presents a luxurious combination of shadow and sound, welcoming listeners into an enthralling and mysterious world that is both captivating and darkly beautiful.

The three-song EP is now available on all streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.
