For those unaware, Ruebi is a Hamburg-based musician who has left a mark on Germany’s post-punk and dark-wave history, and arguably that of the music scene worldwide. Though he was an integral member of a legendary band, he is not one to rely on his past achievements and instead chooses to let his music speak for itself. Regardless, his distinctive bassline resonates eternally, with echoes of a history cloaked in the romantic hues of sunset and twilight.

Ruebi acknowledges his past accolades, but they don’t keep him from pursuing his current desire for self-expression. His latest single, appropriately titled “Closer,” is a love letter conveyed through the language of the guitar. Its verses embody the nostalgia of the 80s and early 90s, seamlessly woven into an engaging melody that captures your attention like a tune that causes you to pause while scanning through radio channels on a lengthy road trip.

This song pays tribute to the human need for connection. It is a humble and sincere love song that is both simple and complex, reflecting the intricate web of emotions that make up the human experience. Through its melody and lyrics, the artist invites the listener to come closer and join in the universal rhythm of love and its unifying bond.
