As a longtime fan of hardcore music, I have long been familiar with the work of Hatebreed. Known for their unrelenting aggression and unapologetic lyrics, the band has been a fixture in the hardcore scene for over two decades. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to get my hands on a shape 12″ double single shape picture disc, Honor Never Dies / Own Your World, released by Demons Run Amok a while ago.

Let’s start with Honor Never Dies, a song previously published on The Divinity Of Purpose LP. This song is a perfect example of what makes Hatebreed such a powerful and important band. From the opening riff, the energy is palpable, and the lyrics are a rallying cry for anyone who has ever felt oppressed or marginalized. The chorus, “Honor never dies when your heart is questioned,” is a powerful reminder that no matter how difficult things may be, we must always hold onto our values and principles. Soundwise, Honor Never Dies is a masterclass in hardcore songwriting. The guitar riffs are heavy and punishing, and the breakdown towards the end of the song is absolutely crushing. But what sets this track apart is the vocal performance of frontman Jamey Jasta. His growling delivery is both powerful and emotive, and he perfectly captures the anger and frustration that the lyrics convey. Speaking of lyrics, let’s dive deeper into what makes Honor Never Dies such an important song. At its core, this track is about standing up for what you believe in, even in the face of adversity. The lines “Sometimes standing for what you believe means standing alone,” speak to the idea that we must never give up our voice, no matter how much others may try to silence us. In a world where so many people feel powerless and voiceless, Honor Never Dies is a powerful reminder that we can still make a difference if we stay true to our values.

Moving on to Own Your World, another track from The Divinity Of Purpose, and a song located on the other side of this beautiful shape/picture disc. This song is another example of Hatebreed’s ability to craft powerful anthems that inspire listeners to action. From the opening riff, the energy is infectious, and the lyrics are a call to arms for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong. The chorus, “Who got more heart than you (no one),” is a powerful reminder that we are in charge of our destiny. Soundwise, Own Your World is a bit more straightforward than Honor Never Dies. The guitar riffs are still heavy and pounding, but the song has a more straightforward structure. That being said, the breakdown toward the end of the track is still absolutely crushing. Lyrically, Own Your World is a powerful statement about the importance of self-determination. The lines “Own your world, it’s in your hands” speaks to the idea that we must take responsibility for our own lives and not rely on others to provide for us. In a world where so many people feel like they are at the mercy of external forces, Own Your World is a powerful reminder that we have the power to take control of our lives and make things happen.

In conclusion, both Honor Never Dies and Own Your World are powerful examples of what makes Hatebreed such an important band in the hardcore scene. Musically, these songs are heavy and punishing, but it is the lyrics that set them apart. They are rallying cries for anyone who has ever felt oppressed or marginalized, and they inspire listeners to stand up for themselves and take control of their lives. Whether you are a diehard fan of hardcore music or simply looking for some inspiration to help you through tough times, these songs are well worth a listen. Of course, Demons Run Amok did an outstanding job on this one. The front side includes a famous Hatebreed skull, while the other side carries the tracklist and information about the record label. The record label printed a skull with white ink on red vinyl, so it looks eye-peeling and very effective. Therefore, head over to Demons Run Amok and grab one for yourself because this is a one-time press limited to 500 copies.
