After a very strong release last year with their debut album Friends With The Enemy, Sofia’s young metallic hardcore heroes delivered a new four-track EP on May 14th, 2023 (while on tour!) called Ignition of Emotion, with a different vocalist after Simo left to form the straight edge metal band TRUExFEELING.
Released digitally only, at least for now, the band shows a slight change in sound—delving into more metal territories, which does not mean that their trademark vicious breakdowns are less heavy and frequent than on their first release. The new singer sounds perfect for the band’s sound with his high shouts and occasional low vocals. There are even some sing-a-longs and spoken word passages in the title track, which is the strongest here—the lyrics deal with overcoming hardship and rebuilding what was once lost, returning from despair and forming a better, stronger version of yourself.
Truly inspiring and touching messages from all of their lyrics—about broken friendships, trust, loyalty, conquering inner demons and other introspective themes that stand out with their originality and difference from the vast ocean of clichéd, tirelessly overused hardcore lyrical themes… They obviously didn’t ignore the important part that is a band’s lyrics (as so many otherwise good bands do), while still focusing very much on the compositional dynamics, perfect sounding mix and overall heaviness of the EP.
The tracks sound fresh, modern, highly produced (in a good way), the riffs are absolutely on point, even with some atmospheric moments that add interesting variety to their ultra-heavy metallic hardcore sound. Their progress is definitely heard here and with such a strong release they show their ultimate dedication to DIY hardcore and will surely continue to impress us with more stuff in the future—which we are excited about!
