Systema is a fairly new political hardcore band featuring members of other notable Colombian troublemakers such as Amenazas, Muro, Doomsday, Sinnaciön and Alambrada, among others. The band’s debut Última Guerra LP is out now via Symphony of Destruction!

“We played our first gig in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic imposed a new lifestyle on us and we had to be isolated and confined, which made it impossible for punk concerts to be held,” the band told DIY Conspiracy.

“The pandemic in Colombia, one of the most unequal and violent countries in the world, was not only a health crisis but a social and economic catastrophe. Almost 45% of the people in the country live below the monetary poverty line and currently we have the highest unemployment rate in the entire history of the country. The only solution proposed by the narco-fascist government was to reinforce the power of security forces, such as the police and national army, who arbitrarily decided who could be on the streets and who could not.”

The foundation of Systema’s musical savagery lies in the Scandinavian and Finnish 80s hardcore, filtered through the lens of the raw & angry Latin American punk. If this combination sounds tempting, you should definitely listen to the ten tracks below!

DIY Conspiracy is exclusively streaming the album in full, followed by a longer statement and a social commentary straight from the band.

Última Guerra is the result of us realising, that we live in a country, trapped in a state of a continuous war and that this will be the last one. This record is the product of the forced lockdown, but also a reflection of our lives, spent in this country, where we suffer the systematic violence of the narco-state.

As a consequence of the violence of the state and the poverty, caused by the COVID-19 since April 28, 2021, Colombia went through a social outbreak without a precedent. This materialized in the so-called National Strike when protests spread all over the country. The “Paro Nacional” was mainly caused by a tax reform proposed by the narco-paramilitary government of Iván Duque and his master, the former head of state Álvaro Uribe. The Colombian state, completely permeated by narco-paramilitary forces, responded to the National Strike with excessive violence and at least 50 people were shot dead by the police. Not to mention countless human rights violations, such as sexual abuse, abductions, mutilations, etc.

The Colombian punk scene responded to all of this by being very active in all demonstrations, as well as in doing concerts and other cultural manifestations on the streets at least once a week.

We really want to thank to Waters Productions and Rat Trap collective for the recording, Jon of Symphony of Destruction for releasing this record, and, of course, for the support and solidarity with the current situation in our country. Also, we want to thank DIY Conspiracy for premiering our album, as well as the global punk scene that has donated to the kids on the front lines of social upheaval, and to the health brigades in the recent protests in Colombia.

Última Guerra was recorded in January 2021, mixed and mastered at Waters Productions studio in the famous Rat Trap house. Half of the tracks were initially released on a demo tape limited to 50 copies.

But we need your help to continue. If you appreciate our work, please consider donating to help keep the site running.
