After a critically acclaimed extended play release called Rollercoaster, and a few excellent singles like Fast Car and Thousand Lights, London-based trio The Fellons returns with another exceptional EP release that will unquestionably appeal to all indie rock fans. Today, I will focus on a title track, an outstanding sonic demonstration constructed by incorporating brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. Liberty explores the fundamentals of indie rock, but you’ll notice how The Fellons implemented some of the finest properties borrowed from complementary music genres like psychedelic rock, progressive rock, post-rock, post-punk, and alternative. The elements of psych-rock probably shine the brightest besides the dominant indie rock presence, and the other additional sonic ingredients work more as enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and similar details that uplift the ambiance on an entirely new level.
You’ll immediately notice how hypnotic vocal arrangements perfectly match everything the remainder of the group invested into Liberty. The vocal harmonies are calm and soothing during almost the entire song, but you’ll also notice impressive singing skills once the chorus kicks in. The drummer contributes to this fine piece of sonic artistry with exceptional rhythmic sequences based on progressive, well-accentuated, dynamic beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics that define the tempo.
