Artist: Vansinnets Mun
Title: Demon 2022
Release: Tape / Digital
Year: 2022
Label: Not Enough, Phobia Records, Bullwhip Records
The name of the Swedish horde Vansinnets Mun translates as “the mouth of insanity” and that’s a fitting title for their unhinged vocal delivery and blistering blend of crust, heavy metal and d-beat with a smear of chainsawing black metal.
Vansinnets Mun’s debut demo(n) tape features only three tracks that clock in less than eight minutes, but the record is stacked with staggering physicality. The classic Swedish kängpunk lies deep in the heart of the band’s galloping sound. Each song is blood-red raw, unapologetic and straight to the point, with rigorous machine-gun drum fills, blazing guitar leads and victorious riffs stamped all over it.
The brutal metallic sound, relentless aggression and blackened anguish in Vansinnets Mun’s music brings to mind Skitsystem, Bombstrike, early Radioskugga, and the likes. What really stands out about this band are the rapid, feedback-laden vocals, which, just like the band’s name suggest, are frenzied throat-ripping growls that do a nice job of enhancing the overall bleakness and heaviness of their music.
It’s no surprise to see crust punk institutions like Not Enough and Phobia Records, along with Malaysia’s Bullwhip Records, getting behind Vansinnets Mun’s demo. If you have kept an eye on the host of killer vinyl releases from both Phobia and Not Enough in 2022, but somehow missed this tape release, now is the time to play it real loud! Really interested to see what’s next for this band.
