On Jan. 20, Donald Trump will officially leave office as Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President Of The United States. Even though the inauguration is happening in just one week, this hasn’t stopped lawmakers from impeaching Trump for the second time.
Trump was first impeached by the House Of Representatives back in 2019. Trump was charged with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Why? Well, he allegedly attempted to coerce Ukrainian officials to interfere with the election against Joe Biden. However, Trump continuously denied these charges. In the end, Republicans in the Senate, who hold the majority, acquitted Trump from the charges.
Then, last Wednesday, things really changed. During the Pro-Trump riots at the U.S. Capitol, lawmakers began drafting impeachment documents for the president’s involvement in the events. As well, Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter.

It’s unclear when the Senate trial will begin. According to CNN, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated senators will likely not return until the last date of Trump’s term on Jan. 19. The impeachment could take days or even weeks in the Senate and will likely happen after Biden’s inauguration.

This “late impeachment” trial for Donald Trump means quite a few things. If the Senate does convict Trump, he could be barred from holding office again. This would squash his apparent plans to run for President in 2024. Additionally, he could also lose his six-figure pension and other post-presidential perks.
Naturally, the news has sparked a lot of reactions online. grandson, Anti-Flag‘s Justin Sane and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill have all shared their thoughts on social media.

197 republicans voted against impeachment.
On the grounds of “unity”.
ONE WEEK after they retweet the President calling for a revolt on the capital that left 5 people dead.
They find new lows each time.
