It hasn’t even been a year since Eminem released his last studio album Music To Be Murdered By. However, it looks like the coronavirus pandemic inspired Eminem to work on a whole new album in 2020.
On Friday, Eminem surprise-dropped his new album Music To Be Murdered By – Side B. The new LP is a continuation of his previous album and is, of course, filled with quite a few controversial lyrics.
Along with calling out both Mariah Carey and Snoop Doggon his new album, Eminem also references Billie Eilish much to the surprise of fans. On the song “Alfred’s Theme,” Eminem raps, “But really I’m just fulfilling my wish of killing rhymes / Which is really childish and silly, but I’m really like this / I’m giving nightmares to Billie Eilish.”
Naturally, the lyrics have caught the attention of many Billie Eilish fans.
As it turns out, there’s a reason why Eminem rapped those particular lyrics. Back in 2019, Eilish told Noisey that she was actually scared of the rapper. When asked to choose between Eminem and Childish Gambino, she had to go with Donald Glover.
”I have to say Childish Gambino, one billion per cent,” she said. “I was scared of Eminem my whole life. Terrified. That dude freaked the fuck out of me. Oh my god. But you know, Childish Gambino created me, dude. I don’t even know, that’s crazy, that’s a god – you can’t even put him in a list of other people.”
Coincidentally, Eminem’s new album arrives on Eilish’s 19th birthday. The coincidence has led many fans to think his name dropping was his way of wishing Eilish a happy birthday.
I almost got a heart attack like someone posted that eminem dissed billie eilish and i was like FUCK NOW WHAT and then i looked closely and the dude likes her so much he wished her a happy birthday on his fkn album
Elsewhere on the album, Eminem also apologizes to Rihanna. On the track “Zeus (feat. White Gold),” the rapper offers an apology to Rihanna over decade-old lyrics about Chris Brownthat leaked last year. On the leaked track, Eminem said he “sided” with Brown after he pleaded guilty to felony assault involving Rihanna in 2009. However, it’s now clear Eminem is trying to make amends on “Zeus.”
“But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna,” he raps. “For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri / It wasn’t meant to cause you grief / Regardless, it was wrong of me.”
Music To Be Murdered By – Side B includes various collabs with Ty Dolla $ign, Dr. Dreand Skylar Grey. “Alfred’s Theme,” “Zeus” and the entire album are available to stream below.
