Iain Templeton, drummer (The La’s, Shack), RIPThe drummer of Liverpool’s Britpop collective Shack has passed away.

In February 2021, Iain Templeton recounted his story of joining a Liverpudlian Britpop collective The La’s to Malcolm Wyatt: “I was busking in a band on Bold Street, and someone said, ‘The La’s are checking you out.’ I replied, ‘Ah, fuck The La’s. Syd Barrett meets The Beatles. Not interested!”. But then Lee (Mavers) came up to me. him and John (Power). He always had a bit of an entourage with him. This was early 1988. He said, ‘You’re our new drummer!’. The first thing he said to me. ‘This is biblical, la! You’re our new drummer. You are The La’s drummer.’

Iain Templeton joined Shack in 1990, having replaced Alan Wills. With the new drummer on board, the band recorded their second album Waterpistol, which despite its commercial failure received flattering reviews. Vox magazine described it as “a bona fide Classic Lost Album”. Following the seven-year hiatus, Templeton played the drums on Shack’s album H.M.S. Fable, released in 1999.
