King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announce triple release

Three albums by Australian neo-psychedelia polymaths are to be released later in October.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have announced a gargantuan release incorporating three records, all to be released in October. The first in the row is Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava. The two other records to follow are Laminated Denim and Changes. Additionally, they have shared a video for one of the songs off the first of this album triumvirate, Ice V.

The albums feature improvised material that emerged from riffs and ideas that had come up during the pandemic. “All we had prepared as we walked into the studio were these seven song titles,” says the band’s frontman Stu Mackenzie. “I have a list on my phone of hundreds of possible song titles. I’ll never use most of them, but they’re words and phrases I feel could be digested into King Gizzard-world.” Mackenzie selected seven titles from his list that he felt “had a vibe,” and then attached a beats-per-minute value to each one. Each song would also follow one of the seven modes of the major scale: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian.

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava will come on 7 October, Laminated Denim on 12 October, and Changes on 28 October.
