The fabulous Brighton-based genre-blenders who are ĠENN have shared a new track from their forthcoming EP Liminal.

Mackerel’s Funky Mission is a sleazy laid-back groover that paints a picture of escapism and release. A four-minute funkin’ joyride with blues riffs, rolling bass, and a cinematic narrative that climaxes with an explosive tripped-out breakdown. Oozing with feel-good vibes, Mackerel’s Funky Mission has all the makings of an underground summer anthem (just check out that ear-worm chorus – you’ll be singing it for days!).

Singer Leona Farrugia adds, “I think Mackerel’s Funky Mission is an escapism mechanism…you sort of pretend to be someone else – in this case a fish – to escape from a current situation. It’s fun to pretend you’re something else and write from that perspective. It was also inspired by the lockdown as I wanted to be a fish just to be able to travel, and also by my love for the sea. I tried to be as visual as possible with the lyrics and the story.”

The Liminal EP is released on 30th March 2021 on  Everything Sucks Music.
