Domenic Dunegan was 18 when he first saw Bruce Springsteen live, and he’s certainly not the only newbie to be bowled over by the Boss. But you can credit that show with sparking Dunegan’s eventual transformation into the formidable frontman he is today. He was a dominant force when he and his Pittsburgh-based outfit, the Ghost Club, buzz-sawed through a breathless set for the Spin showcase at this year’s South By Southwest Conference & Festivals in Austin. And he’s certainly a dominant force on the band’s new album, King Whatever, out April 26 on Last Gang.

Now 26, Dunegan is a former film student who redirected his creative energy into music after taking up piano. Upon forming the Ghost Club in 2018, he began an ongoing collaboration with producer Eric Palmquist (Bad Suns, Plain White T’s). For King Whatever, Dunegan worked with Palmquist to craft a sound that’s his own approximation of Springsteen and the E Street Band—sax and all.

“Another Little Sucker” arose out of a challenge from Palmquist, who prodded Dunegan to write about the qualities he thought were attractive in another human being.

“People ask, ‘What’s your type?’ I’ve never been able to really come up with an answer besides, ‘Someone who’s truly themselves,’” says Dunegan. “I feel like all of us have a version of ourselves that only we know but are afraid to express. Whenever someone is brave enough to take the leap and live beyond that filter of conformity, that’s what’s attractive to me. Get a tattoo, get a piercing, dye your hair or don’t. Life’s too short.”

We’re proud to premiere the Ghost Club’s “Another Little Sucker.”
