Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx revealed the band rehearsed for the first time in over 6 years on Wednesday night, and that Mick Mars sounded as loud as ever. Sixx said bandmates Vince Neil and Tommy Lee sounded âkiller.â
The blues-rock singer Beth Hart released her recent album of âA Tribute to Led Zeppelinâ which she released on February 25. The album is full of classic Led Zeppelin hits like âStairway To Heavenâ, âKashmirâ, âWhole Lotta Loveâ, and âBlack Dogâ, among others. She also covered songs from the band that typically flow under the radar.
During an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Hart talked about the creative process behind her album and also named the most challenging song from Led Zeppelinâs discography.
Beth Hart was asked which song was the most difficult for her to cover. She named âThe Crungeâ, which is the last track on side one of Led Zeppelinâs fifth studio album âHouses of the Holyâ. Hart joked that the band was on some form of psychedelic drugs that no one else must have gotten access to. She found the never-repeating signature changes to be the most daunting.
âWhen it came to doing âThe Crunge,â I remember calling Rob and saying, âDude, these guys were on some form of acid that I donât think anyone else in life has ever found.â I donât know anyone that can write that many time signature [changes], never repeating. Itâs impossible. I said, âI donât have the talent to do it. I will never be able to learn this song.â Heâs like, âJust keep listening.â Finally, one day, I said to Scott [Guetzkow, Hartâs husband], I was like, âDude, this is an homage to James Brown.â
âWe went and did the research and it was. When I found that out, thatâs when I went, âOh, my God. I think I can do this.â So I [was] still trying to respect Plant, but I approached it more from a James Brown vibe. That gave me the confidence that I could do it. Because I grew up listening to shitloads of James Brown. Thatâs what made me go, âOK, I think I can do it.â
