With a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Museum of Youth Culture has ensured stability for its premises in Central London.
Having its base at Printworks, the museum was forced to leave the area due to a large-scale Canada Water regeneration scheme. Now, currently based in Covent Garden, the team has enough space for their numerous projects and part of their expansive collection. The two-storey facility includes a multimedia exhibition room and bookshop. The success of the recent crowdfunding initiative ensured that the museum will be able to secure this space.
Formed from the archives of YOUTH CLUB, the Museum of Youth Culture presents a changing display of photographs, ephemera and educational texts. The collection includes more than 150,000 items from photographers and writers inspired by various subcultures. Apart from exhibitions and educational programmes, the team are planning a series of book launches, film screenings and gigs. Recently, the museum organized a talk and signing event with Derek Ridgers, whose photo book Punk London 1977 is available at the venue’s bookstore.
