If one trip to the planet Chromatica wasn’t enough for you then you are in luck, because Dawn Of Chromatica is beaming its way into our lives on September 3rd.
With a title that suggests an origin story in remix format, a tracklist that includes Charli XCX, A.G. Cook, Arca and Bree Runway, and cover art that looks like a grotesque neon, rave-themed Madball, it promises to be nothing if not a wild ride.
Although it feels slightly bizarre to be launching this project parallel to Love For Sale, her second collaboration with lounge legend Tony Bennett, any continuation of the Chromatica era can only be a good thing. Even more so after many of the originally-planned promotional performances and the accompanying world tour have never seen the light of day due to the pandemic.
The parent record burst into her catalogue like a welcome shot of garish pop adrenaline and, though remix albums can sometimes be hit-and-miss, it is perfectly suited to the concept. Chromatica has a 90s dancey-house sound, going all-out on occasions like monsterbonkers drum and bass track Sine, and I can easily imagine the many fun directions this could be taken in by the artists involved.
If you need me on September 3rd, I will most likely be busy dancing in my living room, with my bubble gun aloft, to Dawn Of Chromatica.
