Remi Wolf has announced her second album, Big Ideas, which arrives July 12 on Island Records, and she’s previewing her next era with the new single “Cinderella.”

The song, recorded at Electric Lady at the top of 2023, taps into vintage funk and disco that fits right in with her songs from Juno. It was initially made between Wolf and longtime collaborator Solomonophonic before she brought in horn players “to round out the sauce.” Its accompanying music video is just as fun, featuring Wolf unleashing some funky moves in a park while a brass ensemble fires off in the distance. There’s even a cameo from Mac DeMarco as an unqualified ice cream man.

“‘Cinderella’ is a lyrical collage of the ups and downs and mood swings and transient lifestyle I was experiencing while writing this album,” Wolf says. “Constant travel and rapid changes led me to feel such a rollercoaster of emotion — moving from feeling really insecure to feeling really good to feeling manic and depressed and then feeling OK again, while desperately craving a grounding figure to tell me I was doing a good job. So, this song was me stepping in as my own fairy godmother telling myself that I was in control. Sonically, I wanted the song to have a sense of ’70s nostalgia while still feeling like a record made today. I wanted to make something where you can’t help but dance and move and feel good while listening.”
