After heroic battles with Ticketmaster to refund fans due to “unduly high” fees, the Cure finally kicked off their 2023 tour last night. Despite playing festivals over the past few years, the band haven’t properly toured North America since 2016, so the run marks a welcome return for the English goth-rock pioneers. During the first night of the run in New Orleans, the Cure pulled out sheer classics (“Pictures of You,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Friday I’m in Love”). They even played “A Thousand Hours”from Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, which they hadn’t performed since 1987.
