The Steve Keene Art Book is the first and only published collection of visionary’s artwork.
Keene is said to be one of the most prolific artists of his generation. During his career, the painter created over 300,000 artworks. Some of these items are album covers. Wowee Zowee, the third LP by Pavement, features Keene’s artwork. Other notable American acts such as The Apples in Stereo and Silver Jews also have albums with a recognisably colourful design by Steve Keene. In the biography on his official site, the artist expresses his egalitarian views on fine art: “I want buying my paintings to be like buying a CD: it’s cheap, it’s art and it changes your life, but the object has no status. Musicians create something for the moment, something with no boundaries and that kind of expansiveness is what I want to come across in my work.”
Steve Keene is a Brooklyn-based multi-media artist who has uniquely showcased his work internationally. His focus includes hand-painted multiples, wood sculpture, and tattooed plywood.
