When the Killers released “Boy” last year, Brandon Flowers told NME that a new album would be coming this year. That still hasn’t been announced, but they did just release another new single, “Your Side of Town.” It was produced with frequent collaborators Stuart Price and Shawn Everett.

Talking to Hanuman Welch on ALT CTRL Radio on Apple Music 1 about the song, Brandon Flowers said, “It’s like a collision of a lot of the music that inspired us and influenced us, but it works wonderfully. I hear Pet Shop Boys, I hear New Order, I hear Depeche Mode. But at the same time, I really do feel like I can take ownership of it. It doesn’t feel like a copy. It’s nice when things like that work out. You can’t really force it. It was just one of those magical moments in the studio where it was born, and we were lucky that we’re able to capture it.”

About the “jealous tendencies” that inspired the lyrics, he adds, “It’s a creepier side of myself. Every now and then you’ll write something and I like to say I’m always lurking, even if I’m being vague in a song or if it’s fictional, you can’t completely remove yourself. So I think when I was a young man, I had some very jealous tendencies and things like that with girls. And obviously, I’ve outgrown that now, but I think I tapped into that with the song and some of those frustrations I felt in my late teens.”

You can definitely hear those influences coming through in this ’80s-style synthpop song, and the song takes a surprising turn when Flowers tries on some vocoder in the chorus. Listen below.

The Killers also have upcoming shows and festival appearances, including Louisville’s Bourbon & Beyond, Asbury Park’s Sea.Hear.Now, Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful, California’s Ohana Festival, and more. See all dates below.
