The Otherness: A New Resistance single review

New single release from The Otherness.

South American rock ‘n’ rollers The Otherness, who we’ve featured on LTW many times in the past and reviewed their debut album here, have released the first track from an upcoming EP, as they gear up for a EU and UK tour.

A New Resistance is the groups response to what it sees as, not only the devastating effects of the digital world on true human relationships, but the exploitation of our data, where we become the product, by the technology companies who lure us online, keep us there and turn our clicks into profitable algorithms. The New Resistance they call for is one of freedom: “We’ll find a new resistance/ In mindful land, you know/ No matter time or distance/ We are aligned…” The band’s full manifesto can be read here.

Musically the single has a more 80s feel than their more recent output, with hints of The Stranglers output during that decade. It shows how they can turn their hand to a classic pop groove, as well as rock, and it’s infectious and dreamy.

They will be touring the UK and EU later in the year so look out for dates soon.
