It’s been well over two years since twenty one pilots released their last full-length album Trench. Since then,Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have put out their chart-topping single “Level Of Concern” and an original Christmas song “Christmas Saves The Year.”

Over the course of 2020, twenty one pilots shared quite a few details regarding their next album. In May, Joseph told Zane Lowe that the duo has pushed up their album plans amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m writing a record right now,” Joseph said at the time. “I’m not sure when it’ll be released. But it’s definitely going to be sooner than we were planning on releasing a record.”

More recently, Joseph gave an update in mid-November with a brief video on his Instagram Story where he shared a simple, “I’m working on the album.” No specific release timeline or details have been revealed just yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing their own.

Then, last month, the duo really sent fans into a theory frenzy when they updated their social media headers. Joseph and Dun said goodbye to the Trench era yellow and hello to a hazy orange in a new image.

As we know, twenty one pilots associate one strong color with each of their albums. 2015’s Blurryface is associated with red while the Trench era is known for its distinct yellow. Seeing as the header image is orange, a color that twenty one pilots haven’t used before, fans think this may be a clue about their next era.

Now, it looks like Joseph has just shared another cryptic symbol with fans. This week, the vocalist updated his Twitter photo that features a mysterious blue symbol.

The color of the symbol now has some fans convinced twenty one pilots’ next era is actually blue, not orange. One fan on Reddit pointed out that the Trench yellow turns to blue when inverted.

Other eagle-eyed fans also noticed some strange similarities to previous twenty one pilots posts that may not be a coincidence. To start, one Twitter user noticed that Joseph has a history of sharing clues around his loved one’s birthdays.

As well, many noticed that the cryptic blue symbol is actually a PSI symbol that stands for the psyche. The symbol even made an appearance in Dema, further linking the former era with the upcoming era.

Another fan even spotted a coincidence on the album artwork for twenty one pilots’ recent Christmas song. If you zoom in closely, the three capital letters on the wrapping paper are “S,” “I” and “P” which spell “PSI” when rearranged.

Amidst all of the theories floating around, a lot of fans collectively believe twenty one pilots’ next era will be blue.
